MacDowall SK, is hosting a fundraiser for avid horseman Gordon T. Trueman, who is slowly recovering from a tragic injury.

On June 4, 2011 while attending a clinic from his life-long mentor, Vern Sapergia, Trueman was involved in a horse related accident which landed him in hospital to repair a broken pelvis. While in hospital Trueman developed some life altering, near death complications that resulted in more than 28 surgeries in an attempt to save his life. But  Trueman is strong and came through each surgery and was eventually transferred home to Prince Albert, well ahead of any Doctors prediction.

Trueman still remains in hospital and although he is slowly recovering, he will need more surgeries to finish repairing the damage that was caused. But these surgeries can not be performed anywhere near home and so sometime in early 2012  Trueman will be sent to Toronto, Ontario to complete (what we hope will be), the last surgeries.

Trueman has always been involved in horses in one way or the other, whether it be working on ranches, managing a riding arena, 4-H, roping, penning, trail riding or just riding for the fun of it. Besides his love for a good horse, he also has a tremendous fondness for his heavy horses, using them for chores, cutting and hauling hay or giving sleigh rides. He has made many a child’s day by giving a Christmas sleigh ride followed by a good snuggle from his team. He has always had a love for horses and the joy that they bring to people of all ages.

Trueman is an Equine Canada Level 1 coach and is involved with the Saskatchewan Reining Horse association and Saskatchewan Horse Federation. Over the last 15 years he has been instrumental in teaching and coaching youth within the Prince Albert area. He has donated countless hours with various 4-H Clubs assisting youth to improve their riding abilities while at the same time establishing confidence and building their self-esteem.

In order to help with the medical and transport costs associated with this trip,  Trueman’s family and friends have organized a benefit in his honor. The benefit will be on February 4, 2012 at the MacDowall hall in MacDowall, Saskatchewan with cocktails at 6 pm and supper at 7. Cost is $20.00 per person. Following the supper, a live auction will be conducted to auction off a number of donated items and as well a silent auction will be conducted throughout the evening. A dance will finish off the evening.

If you are unable to attend this event but would like to contribute, donations can be made to the  Trueman Benefit Trust Account at any Conexus Credit Union or by mailing a check to RR 2, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5P9. For more information about this benefit call Marcel at 467-7634, Guy at 922-8422, Doug at 940-8626 or email Darrell at dhansonranch@hotmail.com.
