NRHA Non-Pro Derby Entries Skyrocket

Several major changes to the National Reining Horse Association Derby were announced earlier this year with the hopes of growing the event – especially for Non Pro competitors. After most recent entry calculations, those hopes are a reality. The $87,500 added NRHA Non Pro Derby has increased more than a 40% in entries to date. Due to this massive increase in Non Pro Derby entries, the NRHA Board of Directors has voted to adjust the schedule, increase the number of finalists and modify the purse payout structure accordingly to accommodate the best interests of horses, exhibitors and judges.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

The Non Pro Derby go round will be split into two sections. The first section will begin on Tuesday, June 22 following the 1st go, 2nd section of the Open Derby go round and will end with draw 45. The remaining entries will run starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23. This change allows the best possible scenario for all horses entered in the Non Pro Derby, including a minimum of one day off prior to competing in the finals as was provided in the original schedule. Also, Tuesday’s Category 1 Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro and Prime Time Non Pro classes will be moved to the Adequan® Championship Arena following the Rookie Level 1 & 2 and Green Reiner 1 & 2 classes on the same day.

ADDITIONAL FINALISTS

The number of finalists in the Non Pro Derby divisions were addressed, as well. The number of finalists were increased as follows:

Non Pro Level 4 – Top 30, plus ties (5 additional)

Non Pro Level 3 – Top 25, plus ties (5 additional)

PURSE MODIFICATIONS

Additionally, the Board of Directors voted to adjust the NRHA Non Pro Derby purse payout structure to be similar to the open purse payout structure. Specifics will be released soon.
