That’s right folks – today I’m mentioning the dreaded F-word. As summer fades away, I can’t help but feel a tinge of excitement with Fall approaching. I know, I know! Canadian summers are so short, if you blink, you’ll miss it. So what’s wrong with me, you ask?? Fall is typically a season filled with my favorite fashions of the year. The styles unveiled at this time of year are always earthy, rich and luxurious. And this year, I have to say I am more excited than ever!
Three of my favorite fashion icons – Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Burberry – have all released fall collections with equestrian inspirations.
Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall line-up has been hailed as the “reinvention of prep.” Think traditional tweeds, hounds, and loads of equestrian details, countered with modern silhouettes and mixed prints. Rich browns, burgundies, maroons and purples make up the line’s classic color scheme and are perfectly accentuated with sleek, tall riding boots.
Ralph Lauren’s 2012 Equestrian Essentials collection draws inspiration from the modern equestrienne and features accents of glossy leather, gold horse bits and skinny belts dressed up stirrup and spur details. Jodhpurs and turtlenecks are dressed up with classic saddlebag purses and glamorous dresses are balanced with horse-bit belts and riding boots.
And the British luxury brand, Burberry has channeled the sporting life of the Hunt in its Fall accessories line-up – in favor of the fox. These clutches – studded and accented with fox and forest wildlife – create looks that are suave enough for the city, yet refined and delicate for the country.
