Welcome to Summer!

Whether you’re celebrating a long weekend or just a summer weekend, I hope it was a great one! The last couple of days seemed to bustle with activity. From all the graduations, to the road trips embarked upon, to new babies being born… y’all have a lot going on!

Our barn hit up a horse show in Claresholm, AB, this weekend. And when back at the ranch, I love looking at this view. Nothing better than some mares and foals and mountains.

Lately, the kids and I have been spending some time visiting these little cuties too:

Kittens

We try to get outdoors as often as we can these days as it seems you never know when it’s gonna be like this:

Watching-Dad

Watching Daddy work with a horse outside in the rain.

Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Saskatchewan and Manitoba who are currently experiencing extreme flood concerns. Stay safe everyone!

Also in the news this weekend, Jason Vanlandingham, of Whitesboro, Texas, and Not Ruf At All won the Open NRHA Derby. The win is doubly exciting because this pair were the 2013 NRHA Futurity Open Champions as well.

And, did you know that Alberta is now the epicenter for jousting in Canada? Check out this video from Alberta Prime Time, shot at the Brooks Medieval Fair in 2012.

Soula Jule Star recently sold to Brazil which caught my attention because it seems there is a lot of interest from Brazilian buyers lately in the western performance industry. Soula Jule Star was a stallion we became very fond of a few years ago, following a visit to Polo Ranch. I guess it’s a good thing we bred to him back then!

And as promised, it’s time to reveal the winner of our Cowgirl Dirt Giveaway! We had an overwhelming response of comments to this giveaway and when asked which eyeshadow color combo she would pick, Brandy wrote:

Barnwood prairie fresh!! Been wanting to try this line of makeup wish they had it in stores!

Congratulations Brandy, you’re the lucky winner of a pressed eyeshadow from Cowgirl Dirt! Please email us at editorial@westernhorsereview.com to arrange to claim your prize!
