I’m sure, by now, you’ve heard about the incredible Cavalia, currently playing in Vancouver and soon to move on to Calgary.
Did you know that Cavalia travels with a cast of 33 artists, acrobats, dancers and riders? As well as 49 horses representing 10 different breeds including the Pure Spanish Breed, Quarter Horse, Arabian, Lusitano, Paint Horse and Percheron.
The Cavalia village includes nine tents, 100 trucks are required to move the material, and 120 permanent employees, as well as 200 locally hired in each city visited. Cavalia has visited 38 cities in Canada, the United States and Europe. More than 1,600 performances have been given over the course of seven years to a combined audience of more than 2.5 million.
Here at Western Horse Review, we are very excited about Cavalia. Primarily, because we have two tickets to give away to the Calgary show. Not just any two tickets, but two Horse Lover seats – which means you will be guided to the best seats available under the tent to see the show up close. Not only that, you will enjoy an exclusive visit to the Cavalia stables after the show! It will be a beautiful thing.
Onto the contest. We held this exact contest last year around June. Our online audience has grown so much since then, I thought we’d hold it again, and compare results. Sounded like fun to me.
So, all you have to do is let us know – in the Comment section below – two things:
1) your favorite horse activity to participate?
2) your favorite horse activity to watch?
It’s fine if they are the same. We’ll randomly choose one winner who will be the lucky recipient of two tickets to Cavalia.
Contest closes April 15th.
Contest winners will be posted April 18th. Look for them then!

Trail riding. Used to compete many years ago and I can tell you that the partnership and communication between horse and rider, when it works, is poetry. Negotiating different obstacles, some of which may not be familiar to the horse, requires calm and confidence in the rider who communicates that to the horse and it is a pleasure to watch that happen. As I no longer compete, I enjoy recreational trail riding. Just being out in the country, listening to the sounds of nature and seeing the wildlife, all from the back of my mare is pure heaven for me. And I always have my camera with me for any photo ops, some including one of my favorite subject…my horse!

My favorite horse activity is just riding and learning with the horses, it always is so energizing to learn what to do to make a better ride, even if it only going down the road, in a show or on a trail course.
I like watching most horse activities, it is fascinating to see a professional move and do with a horse and make it seem so effortless, but still know that they have worked hours, weeks, years to get to where they are.

I loved riding my horse western pleasure and in trail classes…..sadly she passed away this winter at the age of 17….so now I am on the hunt for a new horse….our family enjoys watching the horses in the pasture…one will be sorely missed.
I can think of no better way, to spend my day, than to tour the “back country” on a horse. As a boy, growing up on an Alberta farm, and actuallyI rode my horse to school every day…winter and summer.
Cavalia is a live “art form” that reminds me of the beautiful horses of Spain.
My wife and I spent two weeks on an estate in the south of Spain, where we rode Andalusian horses in the surrounding hills…. a memory I will never forget!
My 2 favorites are the same, barrel racing=:) I think it is actually an addiction now!
