In 2009 Suzon Schaal won the National Reined Cow Horse Association World Championship in the Novice Non Pro Bridle on Genuine Brown Gal. She and her 8-year-old cow horse, by Listo Pollito Lena and out of Genuine Emerald, returned to the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo to defend their title – walking away with the 2010 Championship by 7 points!
Schaal received a check for $3,387, a Bob's Custom Saddle sponsored by Paul and Amy Bailey, a Gist Silversmiths buckle sponsored by Kevin and Sydney Knight, Rios of Mercedes boots, a World Finals vest sponsored by Gist Silversmiths, a C.R. Morrison trophy and a C.R. Morrison commemorative medallion.
Schaal began riding cow horses in 2007, and Genuine Brown Gal, by Listo Pollito Lena and out of Genuine Emerald, was her first cow horse. \”She's a special horse,\” Schaal said of the mare, on whom she also qualified for the Non Pro Bridle finals which will be held Saturday, February 5. The Canadian from Calgary, Alberta, was appreciative of the people who have helped her. \”There's a lot of hard work behind the winner. I give a big thank you to my trainer John Swales – he's been a big help.\” She added, \”Thank you also to my friends, family, and supporters – everyone pictures in.\” With scores of 419.5, Garth Gardiner and Flo N Blu Boon and Morgan Holmes and Dun It Big tied for the Reserve World Championship. Each received a check for $2,371, a World Finals vest sponsored by Gist Silversmiths, a commemorative medallion, and drew for prizes which included a Gist Silversmiths buckle sponsored by Kevin and Sydney Knight, a pair of custom spurs from Tom Balding Bits & Spurs, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, an ESP saddle pad from Classic Equine, and a breast collar from Classic Equine. Flo N Blu Boon, by Pretty Boy Boon out of Lena Over Flo, is owned by Garth and his wife Amanda of Ashland, Kansas. Dun It Big is owned by Morgan's parents Jay and Rhonda Holmes of Sarasota, Florida, and is by Hollywood Dun It out of Genuine Redbud. The NRCHA Celebration of Champions, held at the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas, features the Circle Y Ranch Derby, the NRCHA World Championship Show presented by John Deere, and the NRCHA World's Greatest Horseman.
