If you\’re like us, you\’re a family often on the search for the best deal, coupon or value for your money. That\’s why, even when it comes to things like a day at the Stampede, it\’s good to know how to stretch your dollars to the very last penny.

(Of course, ironically, the penny doesn\’t exist anymore. But that doesn\’t mean the same should go for your budget!)

From the free pancake breakfasts, to the plethora of ways to save on gate admission tickets, the Calgary Stampede does a fabulous job of providing options for families to save money. Here are a few things I\’ve learned recently.

If it\’s the Midway that has your attention, every day before 2 p.m. you will need one coupon less for kid\’s rides in The Great FUNtier – a savings of 25 per cent! The Great FUNtier has a new location in 2014. Rides and games for thrill seekers of all sizes, the Kids\’ Midway is built especially for families with young children in mind. The Kids\’ Midway offers 26 rides and kid-friendly games in a smoke-free zone in its new location north of the racetrack.

And there is even more to do in this area… Meet the men and women of the Canadian Military, watch as the RCMP musical ride prepares for their afternoon performance, or try your hand on the Kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull.

Families can also stop by for $2 treats at Weadickville, an authentic western town setting that re-creates a Calgary street circa 1912. Complete with family entertainment and park like atmosphere, it\’s a great place to enjoy the Stampede\’s historic family feel.  Daily: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

There are additionally many delicious combo deals available at many of the food outlets. Of course, midway food is an adventure all on its own!

There are so many great elements of the Stampede that are free with gate admission, including the Corral Show. This year, the ENMAX Corral has brought the Peking Acrobats to Calgary, one of the premiere Chinese acrobatic companies in the world.

Another fan favorite is the Animals and Agriculture element of the Stampede. Since the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth began as a way to preserve the ideals and values of the western way of life, agriculture is showcased in fascinating ways that will educate and entertain young and old. Everything from tractors to cow horses to horse shoes. Plus, there\’s the majestic Heavy Horse Show presented by Halliburton. This is a multi-faceted world of agriculture that opens up to everyone during these fantastic 10 days in July.
