Spring has finally arrived and things are heating up! Well not outside, but the plans for our Lloydminster show May 21st and 22nd sure is! The board of Directors have made some changes to the show schedule this year and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Our speed events have been combined to all ages, and prizes are being added to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in barrels and poles. Placing’s will be determined by combining the fastest times of the two days. In the event of a tie, there will be a run off to determine the winner. Prizes will be awarded immediately after barrels and poles have run. To enter any of the speed events (Barrels, poles, western riding and reining) it is mandatory that all competitors pre-enter by May 10th this is also the stall deadline. If there are not three or more competitors for these classes, they will not be offered at the show and all monies paid will be returned to the competitor. We will also be offering some Amateur Walk-Trot classes along with a high point for this class. New this year is a two year Old Walk Jackpot with $250.00 added money and an All Ages Western Pleasure Class with $300.00 added money. We will again be offering the Yearling Halter Jackpot ($250.00 added) and the two year old Longline Jackpot. We are also including, a full slate of Amateur Solid Paint Bred classes. Please note, we have a NEW PAYOUT STRUCTURE this year, please go to our website and check it out under the futurity forms.
We have Great news for our SPHC youth members! We are busy working on forming a SPHC youth club. We decided to do this, since we have such a great group of youth and our numbers are increasing. We hope to have everything in place and hold our first meeting in Lloydminster. Please watch our SPHC youth Facebook page and SPHC website for details. The SPHC will again be sponsoring a Paint Horse High Point award at the Sask. Youth Equestrian Tournament, so mark your calendars for Aug 11th-15th in Moose Jaw. This year is bigger and better, so come out and colour the ring again this year.
I received an e-mail from Angie Morrow, asking if I would include her thank you note so here it is: “I would like to thank everyone who sent out prayers and well wished to Katie when she came sick in December. I am THRILLED to inform you that she is improving amazingly and will be started back under saddle here in April!
Also, I would like to announce a new member to my herd. Adele is a 2011 SPB filly by Hes Lopin Supreme and Art I Fancy (All Time Fancy). I am very excited about this new addition and cannot wait to get her out and showing in the yearling classes next year.”
Our President and her family have had a new addition of their own, their first foal of the year by Silent String N Ego their Skipper W bred stallion and their Palomino Olimpicool daughter, One Cool Miss. He’s as friendly as he is handsome; I just have to gush about my two new babies as well! Our little stud colt is out of our Sierra Supreme mare and Daddy is Special Effort x Dash for Cash. Our coloured girl is off my Doc Bar mare and the same stallion.
The Agribition committee is looking for candidates for our 2011 WCA Equine raffle. If interested please contact one of our Directors and we would be more than happy to answer any questions.
Until next time,
Gwen Kinnee (SPHC Director)
