A Noble Cause

This is my little sister with one of her most recent foster puppies:

My little sis has the biggest heart when it comes to puppy rescue foundations.

In her spare time, my sis volunteers at spay and neuter clinics, fosters puppies in need of good homes and cajoles the rest of us out of our hard-earned money for donations to various rescue foundations.

Sometimes we call her the \”The Crazy Dog Lady.\” And sometimes we give her a hard time for her reluctance to receive any Christmas or birthday gifts anymore – since she chooses for us to put her gift money towards these foundations instead.

But all kidding aside, the truth is my little sis\’ quest is quite noble. And secretly, we all wish we could be more like her. Because of her dedication to puppy rescue foundations, I promised my sis I would try and bring some light to a few organizations in Alberta that are concerned with responsible pet guardianship.

So here goes:

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER

A volunteer-based campaign established by like-minded Calgary and area citizens concerned with animal welfare and the promotion of knowledgeable and responsible pet guardianship.  ASLC advocates for the implementation of a municipal by-law in the City of Calgary that will ban the sale of companion animals on all public and commercial properties.

PAWSITIVE MATCH

\"\"

Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation is a not-for-profit, no kill dog rescue based in Calgary, Alberta. They are run independently and made up entirely of a dedicated group of volunteers. Pawsitive Match saves dogs facing life-threatening circumstances in Canada, United States, Mexico, Turks and Caicos, and the Northwest Territories. The dogs in the program come from shelters that have no choice but to euthanize due to over-crowding or because they are shutting down. The group does not discriminate by age, size, breed, location, temperament etc. and they work very hard to save dogs in life-threatening situations and give them a second chance at life. The second focus is then put on placing these animals into the right family and thereby creating a “pawsitive match.”

BARN CAT PROGRAM – POUND RESCUE

Additionally, Pound Rescue has created a new barn cat program to help find suitable homes for the area’s feral (wild) and semi-feral cat populations. In this program, the organization looks for cat lovers who have barns or other secure outdoor structures (horse stables, warehouses, or other suitable outdoor location) and are interested in adopting cats not suitable for life inside a house – or cats that are just plain unhappy living inside. The program places healthy cats that are all spayed/neutered, with all vaccinations up to date, de-wormed and tattooed into suitable barn-life scenarios. And adoption fees are waived for anyone who can offer a warm barn or outdoor location!
