A Tribute to Kaylynn

\"\"

It is with a heavy heart that I write my blog today. Last Friday evening (October 28), the horse community lost a beautiful and brave soul. Kaylynn Malmberg of the Carseland, AB area, lost her battle with brain cancer. At only age 20, this spirited girl fought hard to the very end, including  for her last breath.

Some of you may recall from past My Stable Life posts that Kaylynn represented Team Alberta in 2010 in Kentucky at the Adequan FEI North American Junior Young Rider Championships. A news video from that summer is attached below as a reminder of her spirit.  (Just a note – kleenex is required).

If you didn\’t know Kaylynn, it takes only a brief look at her personal Facebook page – which is still up and running – to see how much people adored her. And how much she will be missed. Rest in peace beautiful girl. May heaven grant you serenity and lots of horses.

  1. I was honoured to meet her many years ago…
We competed together at 4h shows.. a lot of us were
Always dreading showing against her, and her little appy!
It breaks my heart to know such a beautiful person was taken so early.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Malmberg family.

Auction Items are rolling in as well as donations. Come over and bid on items, or send a donation. Cheques can be made to Western Feedlots, they will be paid to the family after the auction etc… If anyone wants to leave auction items or donations with myself, you can leave them with me after the funeral or contact me directly to make arrangements to pick them up. Thanks everyone, your support means a lot to Kaylynn’s family.

Kaylynn’s strength and spirit is what we should all aspire to reach in our lives. She lived her all too short life with a fierce determination; to make it the best that it could be – and, sad circumstances aside, she did just that.

One of the requests she made was to see her three-year-old gelding, Big John, do a special run at the 2011 Reining Alberta Fall Classic. With Deb Duce aboard and not a dry eye in the arena, she got her wish. The cheering was so loud from the packed stands, you couldn’t even hear the music that played for the ride – it was Sarah McLaughlin’s, “Miracle”. At the end of the performance, Deb rode Big John over to the camera and waved to Kaylynn – the videographer, a man, was in tears. You can search the ride on You Tube: Deb rides for Kaylynn.

Yes, she was a kind, sweet and brave girl – and I think she would want us all to try and emulate that in our life. To everyone who knew and loved her, peace be with you, as it is with her.
