Daines Ranch Rodeo Highlights

The Americans are here and they are taking home Canadian cash. The final results detailed this week by the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association in their press release illustrate the competitors from the south, dominating the timed events at the 52nd Annual Daines Ranch Rodeo. While our Canadian boys favored well in the rough stock events, a large pile of the top money was pocketed by the team from the south.

The Calgary Stampede stock aided some top rides for some happy Canadian cowboys. Their high caliber CFR and NFR mare Lynx Mountain, bucked saddle bronc rider and former All Around Canadian Champion Kyle Thompson for a 87 point ride. Special Delivery, by the Stampede’s legendary rockstar Grated Coconut gave the Canadian Bareback Champion, Dusty LaValley a knock-out ride for 88 points and the winning check in the bareback.

Northcott’s bull Risky Remedy, bucked Garret Green out of the chutes for a nail biting ride and a ripping winning score of 87.5. Chad Besplug and Scott Schiffner both tied with 87 point rides for second place in the bull riding.

It all goes south from here.

Louisiana’s tie-down roper Shane Hanchey took the winning check of $6,952 home, with a 7.1 second run. Texan Matt Reeves, put the winning time of 5.0 on the scoreboard in the steer wrestling. Fellow Texan Carlee Pierce smoked over a hundred barrel racers with a time of 15.678, taking the top check for $10,481.In the team roping, Dustin Bird of Cutbank, MT and Paul Eaves of Milsap, TX snagged a time of 4.4 seconds for the win.

Unfortunately, the Coronation Pro Rodeo had to be cancelled as bad weather plagued the weekend. The CPRA schedule hits the town of High River (June 22-24), Sundre and Wainwright (June 21-24). Check out the CPRA website for a complete results of how it all went down and where you can head out next to catch some rodeo action.
