Farmfair Celebrates 37 Years

In some cases, 37 might be thought of as well aged. Like a fine wine.

In other instances, 37 is considered seasoned or mature. Like a respected lawmaker.

When it comes to Farmfair, 37 means we’re just getting started!

Starting Friday, Nov. 5th and running through Sunday, Nov. 14th Farmfair will, as it has for the past 36 editions, continue to focus on the business of the agriculture and food industries.

“As a long-time leader in North America’s agriculture industry, Northlands offers Farmfair attendees the very best in livestock shows and sales, merchandise and gifts, and educational experiences, including plenty of things to see and take in for Farmfair visitors from urban areas,” emphasized Richard Andersen, Northlands President and Chief Executive Officer.

Farmfair always has so much to offer, visitors will want to make sure they get to see and enjoy all of it.

Visitors to Farmfair 2010 will immediately notice exciting changes and new additions.

First, there’s AMAZE-ing Agriculture, which gives urban elementary school students, and their families, a hands-on opportunity to experience ‘life on the farm’.

“For several years, AMAZE-ing Agriculture was a separate Northlands event, but we’re so pleased that it’s now part of Farmfair”, said Andersen. “AMAZE-ing Agriculture is a unique agricultural awareness and educational experience that features interactive displays and real-life demonstrations and live animals. It doesn’t matter what age you are, we know you’re going to really enjoy this experience.”

A big part of the Genuinely Western theme of Farmfair 2010, and another new component to this year’s event, is Home Grown Alberta, featuring foods produced from across Alberta. Home Grown Alberta features a cooking stage with ongoing shows that will give audience members plenty of ideas on how to prepare foods grown right here in Alberta.

Always a popular component of Farmfair is the Dodge City Western Trade and Christmas Show, which annually attracts thousands of shoppers looking for that perfect, genuinely western gift for the special people in their lives, or for themselves!Dodge City is where you’ll find arts, crafts, carvings and anything and everything else to meet your gift-giving challenges.

If you’re looking for other familiar parts of Farmfair, you won’t have to look very far! 4-H will continue to be a big part of this year’s event, including 4-H Family Day, as will Heritage Ranch Rodeo and livestock shows and sales, including small and specialty livestock, and hundreds of cattle, including the National Angus, Limousin, Lowline and Maine Anjou Beef Shows, as well as the 150th celebration of the Canadian Hereford in western Canada.

There’s something for everyone at this year’s Farmfair running Nov. 5th to 14th at the Edmonton EXPO Centre at Northlands.
