Battle of the Breeds Day One

SUBMITTED BY R-BAC PHOTOGRAPHY
We’ve wrapped up day one of the 2012 Telus Battle of the Breeds and what a fine day it was! Sunshine, Horses and the fantastic venue that is Spruce Meadows made for a most memorable day. For those of you who have been lucky enough to attend the Masters in the past, you know what a truly enjoyable event it can be, and this year they’ve pulled out all the stops to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. All I can say is, what a truly inspiring place this is to shoot at.

We kicked off the Battle itself this morning with the compulsory skills competition-basically a short dressage type of demonstration that is both ridden and driven by members from each team. Unfortunately for our three teams, the Connemaras just had that little bit of an edge and they walked away with the win, but not by much!

After lunch, we moved over to the Meadows on the Green field for the Jeopardy Jumping Challenge. Again, our teams had a bit of bad luck that kept them out of the first place spot (that went to team Pinto) but they still managed to please the crowds with some great runs.

The veteran Battle competitor Adrian Neufeld-always a favorite with crowds and judges alike- didn’t disappoint, and team Appaloosa’s newest member Laura-Gene

Schiebelbein’s comments added a little humor to the award ceremony. Overall, a great way to spend the afternoon.

We go again with the Precision driving challenge. Good luck everyone!
