Home Grown & Raised

Forty horses competed for over $10,000 in prize money at the Limited Age Event held in conjunction with the Moose Jaw Cutting Horse Show, August 2 to 5, 2012. Presented by the Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association, this event continues to bring the excitement of seeing the 3 year olds make their debut in the show ring! Thanks to the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company for the great ground and facilities that make events like these possible.

The Open Futurity Aggregate was claimed by the home raised and home trained sorrel mare, FQH Chex Me Out, for Frehlick Quarter Horses, Estevan, Saskatchewan. This mare is from the first foal crop from Ray Frehlick’s stud, Chexboonsmal, and out of the mare HR B Acre Smoke. Resident trainer, Rod Thiessen says that she was a sweet mare right from the start and they look forward to her show career.

Under the saddle of Erin Sawley, Badgercrat took the Non-Pro Futurity Aggregate for owners Erin and Shane Sawley, Melville, Saskatchewan. They purchased this red roan gelding sired by Smart Sugar Badger and out of the mare Royally Aristocrat from Jeff Schwitzer, Valleyview, Alberta, who started and trained him. Watch for this gelding at the coming Limited Age Events.

Dale Clearwater, Hanley, Saskatchewan, showed Dolly D Day and Molly Macs Cat to a tie for the Open Derby Aggregate Award. Wanda Cormack, Pickardville, Alberta, had purchased Dolly D Day, sired by Smart Zanolena and out of the mare Shining Sprats, for her cow horse program but switched to cutting where she is enjoying a very successful career. Dale had been schooling Molly Macs Cat for owner Scott Vance, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Trained by Ian Chisholm this nice mare with a cute style is sired by High Brow Cat and out of the mare Quixotes Molly Mac.

The Non-Pro Derby Aggregate went to BSF Kiss Shy Anna, the third and last of the full siblings that owner Gwen McMeekin, Alhambra, Alberta, purchased from the Bamber Stock Farm. This bay mare, sired by Cheyenne Shorty and out of the mare Sassy Anna Doll, was trained and shown by Gwen’s husband, Bruce. With the loss of Cheyenne Shorty, the McMeekins would like to thank Eric Bamber for his dedication to breeding good cow horses.

The BrettYoung Open Classic Aggregate was split between six year olds sired by Meradas Blue Sue. SDP Acres Of Blue is a mare out of the mare Tari Acre and owned and shown by Jeff Schwitzer, Valleyview, Alberta. Jeff describes her as a real show pony who wants to cut a cow every time. SDP Miss Me Sue is out of the mare Miss Telesis and shown in this class by Cain Quam, Kendal, Saskatchewan. Owner James Reavie, Rocanville, Saskatchewan had purchased this gelding from Les Jack 2 years ago and has been enjoying success in the show ring with this solid show horse.

The BrettYoung Non-Pro Classic Aggregate was yet another tie between Amando Smoothie and Pistols Smart Holly.  Amando Smoothie is a chestnut gelding sired by Smooth As A Cat and out of the mare Amanda Starlight and owned and shown by Robert Krentz, Steinbach, Manitoba. Watch for Robert’s wife Jody to be taking over the reins on this guy! Pistols Smart Holly is sired by Pistols Smart Acre and out of the mare Genuine Cow Dancer. Owned by Bill and Elaine Speight, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, and shown by Elaine Speight, this mare was trained by Elaine’s husband Bill. Both have enjoyed success with this mare in the show ring.
